Wasilla’s Nolan Monaghan of Feather River Community College worked around some early damage to ultimately put the hurt on his opponent.

The sophomore southpaw finished his start with five scoreless innings in a 12-4 win over Lassen Community College in Quincy, California.

He pitched seven innings and worked around seven hits and three walks and fell behind 3-0 and 4-3 before shutting it down.

Monaghan, a 2-year member of Alaska Baseball Academy and of Wasilla Legion Post 35 fame, improved to 5-1 in eight starts this year.

He has struck out 31 batters in 43.1 innings and owns a 3.32 ERA.

Feather River (26-9) won 16 of 20 regular-season games to clinch the team’s ninth straight Golden Valley Conference championship.
