The Arizona Senior Fall Classic started well for the Alaska Baseball Academy at the Peoria Arizona Sports Complex on Thursday. The Alaska Baseball Academy team, which is comprised of the best High School/American Legion baseball players from the nations 49th state spend a week each October playing in front of over 400 college coaches and recruiters and over 100 MLB scouts. In game 1 South Anchorage High School’s Jonny Homza led the Alaskan hitting attack with a pair of doubles, picked up an RBI and also scored a run in the 4-3 victory over Canada. Bryce Swofford of Juneau Douglas High School picked up the win. The 6’7” Swofford gave up a pair of runs in his 3 innings of work. Nolan Monaghan of Wasilla had a 2-RBI single and Noah Alexander of Dimond also singled, had 2 stolen bases and scored a run. Others players picking up hits were Kyle Fitzsimmons of Sitka, Nathan Bonck of Ketchikan and Tommy Koloski of South.
