The Alaska Baseball Academy baseball team improved to 2-1 in the Arizona Senior Fall Classic with a 4-1 victory over Team California. Nolan Monaghan of Wasilla and Jonny Homza from South each threw 4 strong innings in the win. Monaghan gave up one run on 2 hits and Homza pitched 4 scoreless, picking up 6 strikeouts.
South’s Julito Fazzini doubled, while Jonny Homza remained hot at the plate and continued to impress with another single. The game drew another large group of college coaches and MLB scouts with more than 2-dozen in attendance. Others collecting hits were Noah Alexander of Dimond, Lian Lincoln of South, Kasey Watts of Juneau, Raleigh Pigg of Service and Matt Dunaway of Honolulu. Noah Alexander also swiped 3 bags and now has 5 stolen bases in just 3 games.
Several Alaskan players have been garnering attention in this year’s showcase with Bryce Swofford of Juneau, South’s Jonny Homza and Nathan Bonck of Ketchikan getting tons of interest from both prospective colleges and MLB representatives.
