The Alaska Baseball Academy travel team, a squad comprised of the top high school baseball players in Alaska, picked up another impressive victory Friday in the Arizona Fall Classic. The Alaskans knocked off Team California, an all star team from Southern California, 3-2. The game was a well-played old fashion pitcher’s duel, lead by outstanding pitching performances by Jake Andresen of Dimond and Parker Johnson of South Anchorage High School. The 2 pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts over the 8-inning game while their catchers, South’s Sladen Mohl and Juneau’s Michael Cesar threw out 3 base runners apiece. The Alaska team collected 6 hits compared to 4 hits for California. Jonny Homza of South and Tyrece Hudson of Phoenix crushed doubles. Others collecting hits were Kenai’s Paul Steffensen, Matt Hess of Chugiak, Noah Alexander of Dimond and Sladen Mohl. The win moves the Alaska team’s record to 3 wins and no losses in the 69-team field.
